Name: Bust of a Man
Picture:
Description: No provenance. Present location unknown. Roman copy of Greek original. H. 0.38m. Bust of a youthful man, his head turned slightly to the right. His gaze is open, a slight smile curving his lips, a long, straight nose, small ears set close to the head. His hair is unusual, peaking in thick waves and curls; at the forehead, where his hair peaks into a quiff, are two empty sockets just above the hairline. Possibly this was a statue of Hermes, the sockets holding two wings originally.
Date: Possibly fourth century B.C.
