From
the Ptoan sanctuary, Boiotia. Athens National Museum. H. 0.33m. Archaic
kouros head. Elongated face with high cheekbones, large almond-shaped
eyes, high arched brows, triangular nose and thin compressed lips.
A fillet in the hair. The fringe is indicated in low relief, then
gathered at the back to fall over the shoulders in wavy braids. The
ears are set very close to the skull. |

| Discussion: |
Typical
kouros of Naxian influence. The Ptoan sanctuary was controlled by
the Naxians for a period, then Paros and Attika began to have more
of an influence. The series of kouroi stopped around 500 due to the
Theban annexation of the region, which was, in their view, getting
