Outline Biography
|
Twice a graduate of the London School of Economics (BSc Econ, 1963; PhD, 1967), Professor Blanchard was Assistant Lecurer in the then department of Economic and Social History at the University of Edinburgh in 1965. In 1967, he was appointed to a full lectureship, and was thereafter promoted to Senior Lecturer (1989) and Reader (1991), In 1995, he was appointed Professor of Medieval Economic History. He was Directeur d'études invité (1985) and Professeur invité (1996) at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (ex-VIe Section de l' Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes), Paris, and since 1994 has been a 'Recurrent' Professor at the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary. |

Research Interests
|
Professor Blanchard's research deals with Medieval and Early Modern International Economic History, and especially Russian Economic History since 1700. He is currently involved, with financial support from the British Academy and the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund, in a joint research project with members of Medieval Studies, CEU, Budapest on the Economic History of Medieval Central Europe. |
