Economic and Social History offers a range
of research and taught postgraduate degrees.
The ‘MSc by Research in Economic and Social
History’ involves courses in research
skills, historical methodology, and social
science theory,
in addition to the writing of a substantial
dissertation. The programme is officially
recognised by the
ESRC and provides an ideal foundation for
those students wishing to progress to a Ph.D.

In addition,
Economic and Social History runs two taught
degree programmes: an ‘MSc
in Social and Cultural History’ and
an ‘MSc
in the Material and Visual Cultures of
the Past’. Members of staff also
contribute to a variety of other taught
degrees offered
within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology
and beyond. These include the Masters in ‘British
and Irish History’, the interdisciplinary
degree ‘From Renaissance to Enlightenment’,
the ‘MSc in Gender History’,
and the ‘MSc in Slavery Studies’.
These taught degrees encompass a broad
base of training courses and specialist
options as well as the opportunity to write
