This course has been designed to provide
practical instruction in topics related to
scholarly methods, as well as to provide a
workshop in which students will collaborate
to solve bibliographical problems. Students
and staff will meet to generate, present, and
critique preliminary drafts of the students’ dissertation
proposal, as well as present and discuss verbal
presentations of their ongoing research. The
sessions will cover a variety of research skills
and methods including: using PowerPoint as
a presentation tool, preparing a conference
paper; Using EndNote as a bibliographical and
composition tool.
Methodology
Seminars in Classics
The course provides new MSc students and
first year-PhD students with an introduction
to a variety of approaches in current research
in Classics. New postgraduate students in their
second semester of study will benefit from
a series of seminars which will provide them
with a broad basis of approaches and methods;
these can be used for their own specific research
projects. Students will also be able to gain
an introduction to the different methods and
approaches in the variety of subjects covered
by Classics such as Archaeology and Art, Ancient
History and the Literature of Greek and Latin.
Sessions therefore will focus on subjects ranging
from ancient textual criticism through epigraphy
to contemporary literary theory.
