Research

Archaeology at Edinburgh has a dynamic, internationally recognised research profile. All its researchers are brought together with teaching and other facilities in a separate, spacious building, the Old High School, near the centre of the city.

It houses postgraduate research rooms, varied and specially equipped laboratories, post-excavation work space, lecture and seminar rooms, graphics suite with state of the art computing support, and the V. Gordon Childe Collection of archaeological materials from India, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

The Old High School is home to an average of 30 postgraduate researchers per annum. Details of their current investigations, interests and other activities are found at the Postgraduate web-pages. They, together with staff and affiliated members in such renowned research centres as the National Museums of Scotland, are engaged in a wide spectrum of researches dedicated to exploring humankind's evolution.
